Oils for the Fall and Winter Cold Seasons

THIEVES!! Thieves Essential Oil

Is a blend that I rely on all year long, but use mostly in the colder months. The blend is made up of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary essential oils. Due to it's powerful ability to fend off infectious disease, I use it to protect my family before we pick up anything yucky, but it's an excellent rescue too, if you're already feeling compromised. In the Essential Oils Desk Reference, published by Essential Science, the description for Thieves reads, "Thieves was created from research of a group of 15th-century thieves who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying. When apprehended, these thieves disclosed the formula of herbs, spices and oils they used to protect themselves..." and  "studies conducted at Weber State University in 1997  demonstrated it's (thieves) killing power against airborne microorganisms. One analysis showed a 90% reduction in a number of gram positive Micrococcus luteus organisms after diffusing for 12 minutes. After 20 min the kill rate jumped to 99.3%. Another study against the gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed a kill rate of 99.96% after just 12 minutes of diffusion.

I apply it to the soles of the feet and then inhale deeply cupping my hands in front of the nose and mouth. If there's someone sick in the house I diffuse it in a air forced diffuser (YL has three great varieties) for 15-20 minutes in each room. I LOVE it for a sore throat, rubbing it directly on the throat and taking it internally in honey as a throat soother and cough syrup. I also like it on the back of my neck and shoulders. REMEMBER Thieves has some pretty hot oils, I always dilute it in V6 carrier oil before I put it on anywhere or anyone sensitive. The bottoms of the feet are usually fine NEAT. I especially use it in airports and hotels and public spaces in general. YL also has a great line of Thieves products from household cleaner to hand purifier.

RC Essential OilRC (respiratory congestion)

This is a must have on hand for coughs, sniffles, and allergies! The blend consists of eucalyptus globulus, eucalyptus radiata, eucalyptus australiana, eucalyptus citriodora, myrtle, pine, spruce, marjoram, lavender, cypress and peppermint. Now there's one thing I love about Young Living's blends, in one bottle we have ALL those oils, and making a synergistic blend of so many oils takes a lot of care and knowledge about oils chemistry! The desk reference says of RC " gives relief from colds, bronchitis, sore throats, sinusitis, coughs and respiratory congestion. Decongests sinus passages, combats lung infections, and relieves allergy symptoms." I have to add that a client of mine is finding excellent relief from his asthma using this blend!! YAY!!

I like to rub this blend to the chest and back and then apply a warm compress over the areas. I apply it to the feet and work the lung, bronchial, and sinus Vita Flex points. Also I'll add it into a Raindrop session for someone with an issue. It's great to diffuse and inhale directly from your hands, but it can also tolerate heat better than some other oils, so the good old steaming bowl of hot water with a couple drops of RC is a wonder for clearing up stuffy sinuses. Again, remember that a child's skin is more sensitive so either dilute the blend 50/50 with a high quality vegetable oil ( I recommend YL's V6 carrier oil) or have some on hand in case it heats up beyond comfort. The "heat " is caused by action and is easily remedied by applying some fatty oil to slow the absorption rate.
